The course is designed to offers opportunities for trainee dental nurses to develop a range of skills and knowledge and build their confidence by knowing how to use best practice techniques for leading and developing. It gives an insight to chairside assistance and practical day to day skills required as a dental nurse.
Course Aim
To provide knowledge and skills on implementing the daily tasks of a dental nurse within a surgery setting.

State the role and responsibilities of a dental nurse
Prepare and mix dental restorative materials for dentist
Effective delivery of Chair Side assistants
Setting up and closing a clinical area
Provide high quality patient Care
Cross Infection duties as a dental nurse
Management of a dental software (Charting)
Course structure
This course consists of 3 units. Each unit is covered in 3 hours practical tutorial in surgery or at a venue. All units successfully cover the criteria for Record of Experience (ROE) completion.
Unit 1 :
How to prepare and maintain a clinic area (Setting up and closing a surgery)
Decontamination Process – (Flow of Clean to Dirty Area, Infection Control)
Using Dental Software (SOE & R4, charting, adding patient information, consent forms, medical history forms)
Unit 2:
Chair side Assistant (Suction techniques, assistant during radiography )
Mixing Material (restorative material, impression material, preventative materials)
Writing up ROE’s (Record of Experience) and SO (Supplementary outcomes)
Unit 3:
Preparing surgery for restorative procedure (instruments and material used)
Preparing surgery for endodontic procedure
Preparing surgery for fixed and removable prosthesis procedure
Preparing surgery for extraction procedures
